A big sacrifice from Shubman Gill who is ready to bear the million dollar loss for the team, Gujarat Titans will benefit from it.

New Delhi. Ahead of the Indian Premier League 2025 mega auction, all franchise teams will have to prepare the list of their retained players. Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has decided to make a big sacrifice for the sake of the team. He accepted a pay cut. He will be the second player to be acquired by this IPL franchise before the October 31 deadline.

Gill will lead the Titans for the first time in 2024 and the team management is committed to retaining key players from both teams. The first player to be retained for the franchise is star spinner Rashid Khan, after which the team can retain Gill, Sai Sudarshan and two uncapped players (who have not played international matches) Rahul Tewatia and Shahrukh Khan.

At next month’s big auction, the franchise will have the opportunity to retain an additional player via the Right to Match card. Gill is considered the future leader of the Indian cricket team. An IPL source said: “Gill has decided to accept the salary cut so that the team can retain its key players and build a stronger team.”

Gill could suffer a loss of millions of dollars

As per the IPL retention guidelines issued ahead of the grand auction, the team received an increase of Rs 120 crore by retaining the first player. Out of this amount there will be a loss of Rs 18 Crore. By withholding the second amount, Rs 14 crore will be deducted and by withholding the third amount, Rs 11 crore will be deducted. For uncapped players, the team has to spend Rs 4 crore each. Rashid Khan will be the first player to be taken over while Gill is the second. In such a situation he will get Rs 14 Crore instead of Rs 18 Crore and due to this reason there may be a loss of Rs 4 Crore in his current salary.

If a team retains five players who play international cricket, Rs 75 crore will be deducted from its money in the auction. The auction is expected to take place abroad in the last week of November. This time the team has to spend Rs 120 crore as compared to Rs 100 crore it got in last year’s auction. Each team can retain six players from the current team using retention and match card rights, which is the highest in IPL history.
