Washington: After winning the US presidential election, Trump has started riding the victory wagon. But as some people saw Trump’s victory increasing, they became afraid. When polls on the outcome of the US election suggested that Donald Trump would become the second president, many Americans were already looking for a way out abroad.
Company data shows that Google searches for “moving to Canada” rose 1,270% in the 24 hours after the survey closed on the US East Coast on Tuesday, TOI reports. Similar searches about visiting New Zealand increased by almost 2,000%, while searches for Australia increased by 820%.

People searched a lot on Google
Google searches related to migration reached an all-time high for all three countries late Wednesday night on the U.S. East Coast, according to a Google official. The search engine did not provide full figures, but data from the website Immigration New Zealand showed about 25,000 new US users signed up to the site on November 7, compared to 1,500 on the same day last year. Some immigration lawyers were also bombarded with questions.
Why are people afraid?
The sudden enthusiasm for going abroad was also evident after Trump’s victory in 2016. However, this time the Republicans’ re-election followed a particularly controversial campaign in which, according to an Edison Research poll, almost three-quarters of American voters said they believed the American democracy is in danger. Many Americans also fear that his presidency could cause major divisions between Democrats and Republicans on issues such as race, gender, what and how children are taught and reproductive rights.
In a Reddit group called r/AmerExit, aimed specifically at those leaving the U.S., hundreds of people shared suggestions about ideal travel destinations. Some users said they feared for the country, their safety or both following Trump’s victory.
