New Delhi. Indian cricket team’s new star Sarfaraz Khan is very happy after scoring the first century of his Test career. Sarfaraz says his dream since childhood was to achieve a Test century. Sarfaraz was given the chance to replace the injured Shubman Gill in the starting XI in the first Test match against New Zealand, which he grabbed with both hands. Furthermore, Sarfaraz has expressed that he is not destined to play only as a substitute. Sarfaraz scored 150 runs and played a great partnership with Rishabh Pant (99). Because of this, India managed to set the Kiwi team’s target of 107 runs despite being 356 runs behind in the first innings.
Sarfaraz Khan’s father Naushad also dreamed that his son would play Test cricket and score big. For this reason, the 26-year-old batsman did not forget to mention his father. In the post-match press conference, he said, “I talk to my father a lot because he constantly motivates me.” I felt good because it was my first century playing for India. This has been a dream for me since I was a child. I am very happy.’

“Thinking about tomorrow also spoils my gift”
Sarfaraz knows that it is not easy to gain a place in the Indian middle class, but he just wants to focus on the present instead of thinking about the future. He said, “I always remember that tomorrow is uncertain.” There have been times in the past where thinking about tomorrow has spoiled the present, so now I just want to live in the present. Sarfaraz showed during his innings that he is a good off-side batsman. New Zealand’s fast bowlers threw him short pitches where he easily scored runs on the off side. Of his 150 runs, he scored 83 runs from the off side.
“I like playing the high ball”
According to Sarfaraz, “I like playing the rising ball.” At my house (Mumbai) there is a bouncy fence where I train regularly. They (New Zealand fast bowlers) tried to bowl short balls outside off for me and I just played accordingly. It was fun. Sarfaraz formed a 177-run partnership with Rishabh Pant for the fourth wicket. Pant was recovering somewhat from his knee injury and initially struggled to find his rhythm. Therefore, Sarfaraz faced New Zealand’s fast bowlers more often in the first hour and gave more shots to his partner after the arrival of the spin bowlers.
“We need to take 2-3 wickets at the start”
Sarfaraz said, “When the left-arm spinner was bowling, I tried to hit Pant. “I knew he would overpower them. We tried to put pressure on the bowlers from both sides because I was also able to cope well with the fast bowling attack. India have set a target of 107 runs for New Zealand, but Sarfaraz is hopeful that his team will successfully defend this target. He said, “This is not an easy wicket to bat on.” I don’t think we have the game in hand yet. The ball still cuts in and out. So if we manage to take two to three wickets from them (New Zealand) at the start, their batting may collapse.
