Big B told an interesting story
He shared why he had to re-record the powerful dialogues of ‘Vijay’? After Varun Dhawan praised Amitabh Bachchan’s brilliant performance in the film Agneepath, Big B shared this interesting anecdote.
“The film is still incredible”
Varun Dhawan said, “The film is still incredible.” Your character is amazing. Film director Raj said, “You have been a hero for so many generations that even new actors try to capture your style in many scenes.” I tell them that only you can truly embrace this character.
Why was the decision made to use voice modulation?
Varun then asks Big B, “As an actor, I would like to know what was going through your mind while playing the character of Vijay Dinanath Chauhan?” How did you decide on voice modulation? In response, the megastar said, “I will tell you one thing.” Some things happen without planning. On the first day of shooting, I couldn’t understand how to portray this character. I was in the make-up room and called Mukul Anand and suggested giving Vijay a deeper voice. He agreed and that’s how we decided.
Agneepath was directed by Mukul Anand.
Dialogues had to be re-dubbed after the film’s release
Amitabh further said, “Earlier, a man came to Kalyanji-Anandji’s house whose voice was very heavy, so I thought why not do Vijay’s voice the same way?”..The first shot of the character was inspired by that. However, when the film was released, the producer called and told him that there were problems at the theater. The audience threw up their seats and told the sound department, “That doesn’t sound like Amitabh, fix the sound system!” Due to this, Amitabh Bachchan had to re-dub Vijay Dinanath Chauhan’s dialogues.
The film failed to meet its budget
This film was made on a budget of Rs 28.5 Crore, managed to gross only Rs 10 Crore and was declared a failure at the box office. Amitabh initially faced a lot of criticism for his voice, but this role is one of his most memorable characters.
