Why more than 50 Muslim countries gathered in Saudi Arabia
According to a report by the Saudi Press Agency, the crisis conference in Riyadh was called at the initiative of Saudi Arabia. It was attended by leaders from Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Turkey, Egypt, Palestine and all Arab Islamic countries. The purpose of this conference was to discuss the issues of Iran, Lebanon, Gaza and Palestine and decide on future strategy. According to a BBC report, this conference of Islamic countries was called as a strategy shortly after Donald Trump’s victory. So that pressure can be exerted on Israel to stop its actions, particularly in Lebanon and the Gaza Strip.

Is it an attempt to put pressure on Trump?
Donald Trump is considered a close confidant of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He has said on many occasions that the war would not have started if he had been in power. In such a situation, it is assumed that Islamic countries want to put moral pressure on Trump to stop Israel’s actions. There is something else to consider here. The conference was initiated and led by Saudi Arabia, which is considered to be close to America. So that more pressure is put on Trump.

What happened at the conference?
At this conference, Islamic countries raised their voices together for the first time against Israel’s actions in Lebanon, Gaza and Palestine. An appeal was made to stop the Israeli attacks immediately. Saudi Arabia’s Prince Mohammed bin Salman said bluntly that Saudi Arabia condemns Israel’s genocide of Palestinians and it should be stopped immediately. Prince Salman said that Palestine is an independent country and should be granted independent country status. Israel should immediately withdraw its troops from the West Bank and Gaza and the international community should put pressure on Israel to do so. The Saudi crown prince clearly pointed to America.

Regarding Iran, the Saudi crown prince said that the international community should respect its sovereignty and put pressure on Israel. Prince Salman said that Saudi Arabia completely rejects Israel’s attempt to attack Iran in any way.

At the conference, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said that we condemn the killing of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Egypt will always oppose the extermination, expulsion or genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. He said that Egypt stands side by side with the Lebanese people and will always help them.

The issue of the Al-Aqsa Mosque also came up
At this conference of Islamic countries, the issue of Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem was also raised. Muslim leaders claimed Israel was repeatedly violating the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque. The Saudi crown prince said that Israel is repeatedly encroaching on the legitimate rights of Palestine and trying to eliminate them, which is in no way right. The Al-Aqsa Mosque is considered one of Islam’s holiest sites. There has been a dispute between Israel and Palestine about this for decades.

What is the conference’s 33-point agenda?
At the Riyadh conference, Islamic countries also presented a 33-point draft to resolve the Israel-Gaza issue and other problems. This draft states:

1. The 33-point draft expressed support for Palestine
2. The draft condemns violations of the sovereignty of Lebanon, Iran, Iraq and Syria.
3. Israel has appealed to the international community to end the Gaza conflict.
4. Appeals have been made to implement UN resolutions and International Court of Justice decisions in Palestine.
5. There was a call to lift the ban from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine (UNRWA), the UN agency that works on behalf of the Palestinians.
