Emerging Asian Cup: Afghanistan’s young ‘fighters’ made history, defeating Sri Lanka in the final and becoming champions for the first time

New Delhi. Team Afghanistan A surprised everyone and won the Emerging Team Asia Cup title. The Afghan young fighters defeated the Sri Lanka A team by seven wickets in the final. Afghanistan reached the target of 134 runs in 18.1 overs with the loss of 3 wickets. In this win, Afghanistan opener Sadiqullah Atal scored the highest score of 55 runs. Spinner Allah Ghazanfar was awarded the Player of the Match award for his excellent bowling. Today is a historic day for Afghanistan cricket.

Sri Lanka A team, batting first, scored 133 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs. Middle-order batsman Sahan Arakshige scored the most 64 runs. Nimesh Vimukthi departed after scoring 23 runs while Pawan Ratnayake contributed 20 runs. Three Sri Lankan batsmen could reach double figures. For Afghanistan, Bilaj Sami took a maximum of three wickets while Allah Ghazanfar took two wickets.

Sediqullah scored the highest score of 55 runs.
The Afghan team, aiming to chase the target of 134 runs set by Sri Lanka A, got off to a very poor start. Sahan dealt Afghanistan a big blow by opening bowler Zubaid Akbari on the first ball of the first innings. Sadiqullah Atal and captain Darwish Rasoli then jointly led the innings forward. Both made a partnership of 43 runs for the second wicket. Rasoli was eliminated after scoring 20 runs in 24 balls. Karim Janat then scored 33 runs off 27 balls while Mohammad Ishaq returned unbeaten after scoring 16 runs off 6 balls. Sediqullah scored 55 runs in 55 balls and returned unbeaten after leading the team to the title.
