Washington. US President Joe Biden said he understands when and how Israel will respond in response to Iran’s recent ballistic missile attack. Biden did not elaborate on this when he spoke to reporters in Germany on Friday, but his comments make it clear that there is unity between America and Israel on the issue.
When reporters asked about the prospects for peace in the Middle East, Biden said he believes there is a chance to end the conflict between Israel and Iran for a while. “We believe there is a possibility of a ceasefire in Lebanon, while it will be difficult in Gaza, but we need to be sure about what happens next,” he said.
Biden said Israeli officials spent nearly two weeks considering how they would respond to the roughly 200 ballistic missiles fired by Iran. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had expressed his desire to consult Biden first, but that discussion did not become possible until October 10. In this situation, it is clear from Biden’s statement that America is actively working to resolve this crisis.
Amid rising tensions between Israel and Iran, US President Joe Biden said in a call with reporters that he was opposed to Israel targeting Iranian nuclear or oil sites. This comment was made before the call when Biden discussed with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. After the phone call, the US sent a THAAD air defense battery to defend Israel.
This system was designed to protect Israel from Iran’s reaction. In addition, American soldiers were also deployed to operate this system, showing America’s support for Israel. However, this move calls into question Israel’s longstanding policy of self-defense. In this situation, Biden’s statement and America’s military assistance may further increase tensions between Israel and Iran.
