New Delhi. This festive season, sales of two-wheelers and three-wheelers have set a new record in the Indian market. According to the Federation of Automobile Dealers Association (FADA), increasing demand in rural areas played an important role in this growth. Between October 3 and November 13, 2024, there was a 12% increase in retail vehicle sales. A total of 43 lakh vehicle units were sold during this period, which is much higher than the 38 lakh units last year.
There was a huge increase in two-wheeler sales during the Christmas season, especially in rural areas. The industry’s offers and huge discounts contributed significantly to this growth. Generally, the months of October and November are considered the peak of the festive season in India when customers buy expensive items in bulk.
Sales increased, but less than expected
However, sales figures were slightly lower than expected, FADA said. The association was expected to sell 45 lakh vehicles this season, but the figure could only reach 43 lakh. Natural disasters were blamed for this decline in sales.
Cyclone in Odisha and heavy rains in south India hit festive sales. Sales were also affected in many areas by the late withdrawal of the monsoon. Despite this, sales of two-wheelers increased by 14% and sales of cars increased by 7% due to huge discounts and offers.
Positive signs for the industry
FADA had previously reported that car sales rose more than 32% in October. However, inventories have still not returned to normal. The association assumes that it could take another three months until stocks are balanced again.
This holiday season increase is a positive sign for the automotive industry. The companies hope this will help improve inventory levels and maintain customer demand in the coming months.
