Washington. US President-elect Donald Trump suffered a major blow when Matt Gaetz announced on Thursday that he was withdrawing his nomination for US Attorney General. The sexual allegations case against Matt Gaetz caused great controversy. “I had excellent meetings with senators on November 20th,” Gaetz said in a statement posted to his “X” account. “I appreciate their feedback and the incredible support of so many people.”
The former Republican congressman from Florida added: “Although support was strong, it is clear that my confirmation for attorney general was not consistent with Trump’s important position.” He said: “There is no point spending time with unnecessary conflict in Washington “That’s why I’m withdrawing my nomination for Attorney General.”
Gaetz’s selection brought to light old allegations of sexual misconduct and other inappropriate behavior that were investigated by the Justice Department and the House Ethics Committee. CNN’s Paula Reed reported that the decision to withdraw Gaetz’s name came after the network contacted him. The report said a woman told the ethics panel that she had sex with Gaetz twice in 2017, when she was 17.
