New Delhi. Australian cricket team wicketkeeper-batsman Matthew Wade has announced his retirement from international cricket. The Kangaroo team batsman played a total of 225 international matches in his 13-year career. His retirement ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy is a huge blow for Australia. The 36-year-old player represented his country in three T20 World Cups. His most memorable performance came in 2021 when he played a key role in Australia’s first win at the T20 World Cup in Dubai.
Matthew Wade had put in an excellent performance in the T20 World Cup 2021. The semi-final game against Pakistan was unforgettable. In that match, he played an unbeaten innings of 41 runs off 17 balls and secured the team a ticket to the final. Matthew Wade took Australia to the final by continually hitting sixes by Shaheen Afridi, who was in top form, shattering Pakistan’s dream.

Matthew Wade also played 36 Test matches for Australia, scoring 1,613 runs. He has four Test centuries and five half-centuries to his name and his average was 29.87. Wade’s best score was 117 runs, scored in the fifth Ashes Test against England at The Oval in 2019. He also played 97 ODI matches, scoring 1,867 runs in 83 innings at an average of 26.29. He has a century and 11 half-centuries to his credit. In 92 T20 Internationals, he scored 1,202 runs at an average of 26.03 and a strike rate of 134.15. He has three half-centuries to his name in the format, with the best score being 80 runs.
