After studying at Ramnarayan Ruia College, he joined his father’s theater group Prithvi Theaters and worked for several years.

Shammi Kapoor made his debut in Hindi films in 1953 with Jeevan Jyoti. Directed by Mahesh Kaul with Chand Usmani in the lead role. The journey from failure to success in Shammi Kapoor’s life was also very long. He worked in films like Rail Ka Dibba, Naqab, Hum Sab Chor Hain, Mehbooba Shaman Parwana, Mem Sahib and Chor Bazaar. Shammi Kapoor had great success with ‘Tum Sa Nahi Dekha’, ‘Dil Dekar Dekho’ directed by Nasir Hussain.

The film “Junglee” made him a star

Shammi Kapoor married actress Geeta Bali in 1955, but his wife died when she was just 35 years old. Four years later, Kapoor married Princess Neela Devi Gohil of the Gohil dynasty of Bhavnagar state.

Shammi Kapoor died in 2011
In an interview in 2011, Mumtaz had revealed that Shammi Kapoor had proposed to her after he got close to her during the shooting of the film ‘Brahmachari’. Mumtaz said she rejected the marriage proposal because Kapoor wanted her to give up her career. Shammi Kapoor suffered from chronic kidney failure. He died on August 14, 2011.
