New Delhi: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Police have filed a case against film producer Ram Gopal Varma for allegedly posting derogatory posts against Chandrababu Naidu, his son and state minister Nara Lokesh and his wife Brahmani. Based on a complaint from a local Telugu Desam Party (TDP) leader, a case was filed against the filmmaker at Maddipadu police station.

Last year, TDP Mandal Parishad secretary Ramalingam had lodged a complaint against the controversial filmmaker for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Chandrababu Naidu and his family members. The police have registered a case under the IT Act and have initiated an investigation. The director had made this comment while promoting his film ‘Vyuham’ on social media.

Ram Gopal Varma’s film released in 2009 about then Prime Minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s tragic death in a helicopter crash and the subsequent death of his son YS depicts the events of Jagan Mohan Reddy’s formation of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP). The film was released late last year during the Andhra Pradesh and Lok Sabha general elections.

When Ram Gopal Varma made a film on NTR
Ram Gopal Varma, who is close to YSRCP, has criticized Chandrababu Naidu. He had earlier met the TDP founder and former NT chief minister. The film ‘Lakshmi NTR’ was made on the love and marriage of Rama Rao (NTR) and Lakshmi Parvati. This film also featured the controversial role of NTR’s son-in-law Chandrababu Naidu. Ram Gopal Varma had allegedly made several derogatory comments against Naidu, Lokesh and actor-politician Pawan Kalyan (now deputy chief minister).

YSRCP leader arrested based on statements
The case against the film producer has been registered at a time when the coalition government of TDP, Jana Sena and BJP is cracking down on the social media activists and their supporters who targeted TDP and Jana Sena leaders during the YSRCP’s rule . In the last few days, many YSRCP leaders, workers and supporters have been arrested for past defamatory statements. It is noteworthy that Ram Gopal Varma had also criticized Chandrababu Naidu, Lokesh and Pawan Kalyan for protesting against ‘Vyuham’ outside his office in Hyderabad.
