Washington: Senator Bernie Sanders has promised that American policy toward Israel will change significantly if Kamala Harris becomes president. He has pledged a ceasefire in Gaza, humanitarian aid and efforts to rebuild Palestinian infrastructure. Sanders also warned that a Donald Trump victory would deepen ties with Israel’s right-wing leadership, creating obstacles on issues such as climate change and women’s rights.
Delivering a strong message to his supporters, Sanders said Harris would work with him to achieve a ceasefire in Gaza, the release of hostages, an increase in humanitarian aid, an end to attacks on West Bank settlements and a return to the Palestinian People will work to make it happen.
Bernie Sanders expressed disappointment that the administration supported a massive military response to Israel after the October 7 Hamas attacks. Hamas attacks killed 1,200 Israeli civilians and took 250 hostage. While Sanders recognized Israel’s right to self-defense, he condemned the “total war” against Palestinians in Gaza, which has resulted in the deaths of 42,000 Palestinians and massive damage to hospitals and schools in Gaza.
“In Congress, in Congress, Republicans have done more to block humanitarian aid to the starving children in Gaza,” Sanders said in response to his supporters’ concerns. He also said that Kamala Harris and Joe Biden support increasing humanitarian aid to Gaza. Sanders compared Harris’ stance to Trump’s support of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, whom he described as a “like-minded far-right ally.”
Bernie Sanders talks about election issues, calls Trump’s victory dangerous
Bernie Sanders discussed current election issues and warned that a Donald Trump victory would threaten women’s rights, the fight against climate change and economic equality. He referenced Trump’s recent rally at Madison Square Garden, calling it a devastating display of “gross sexism and racism” and urging voters to reject it.
