- Don Lemon has criticized Elon Musk ahead of the airing of their interview on Monday.
- Lemon scrutinized Musk’s stance on diversity and conspiracy theories.
- He said Musk, despite his image, was sensitive to criticism.
Don Lemon, who has spent the past several days hyping up his coming interview with Elon Musk, has said Musk isn’t used to being “held to account.”
In a Q&A with People Magazine, the former CNN anchor laid out his criticisms of the tech billionaire ahead of the interview‘s release. The full segment of the Musk interview is set to air on Monday.
“He’s not used to having to answer to anyone, especially someone like me who doesn’t share his worldview, who doesn’t look like him,” Lemon, one of the few Black and gay anchors to have worked on cable television, told People.
Lemon hinted at some “uncomfortable” exchanges between the pair. One snippet released Friday shows Lemon questioning Musk’s stance on diversity, equity, and inclusion and his comments on X about non-white female pilots.
He also scrutinized some of the white-supremacist talking points Musk has promoted on his X account, as well as his widely reported interaction with the presumptive GOP candidate, Donald Trump.
Lemon said that following the interview, Musk’s team was so cautious of his image that they wanted to review the footage before it aired — but their request was declined.
He also said that, by far, Musk had been the most “sensitive or touchy” subject he’d spoken to despite Lemon having questioned “world leaders, presidents to convicts.”
“For someone who doesn’t care about what people write or say about him, he sure does care about what people write or say about him,” Lemon said.
Lemon previously said Musk was so upset about the interview he canceled a partnership between Lemon and X.
But Musk didn’t say the interview was why he pulled the plug on the deal. Instead, he said he thought Lemon’s vision for the show wouldn’t “work” on X.
“His approach was basically just ‘CNN, but on social media,’ which doesn’t work, as evidenced by the fact that CNN is dying, ” Musk said on X.
Representatives for Musk didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.
