New Delhi. Maruti Suzuki’s influence in the Indian automobile market continues to be strong. While the company continues to be a leader in the hatchback segment, it has now reached the top in the SUV segment too. Especially in the sub-4 meter SUV segment, Maruti has established its dominance by defeating Tata Motors.
The Q3 2024 numbers show that Maruti has underperformed Tata Motors. Tata’s Punch has been the best-selling SUV in the segment for some time now, while the Nexon’s sales have been declining. On the other hand, demand for Maruti’s Brezza and front SUVs has increased, making the company overtake Tata.
Maruti’s dominance is visible in the third quarter
If we look at Maruti’s sub-4 meter SUV sales in Q3 2024, 15,322 units of Brezza, 13,874 units of Frontex and 599 units of Jimny were sold in September 2024, making a total of 29,795 units sold. A total of 32,169 units were sold in August 2024, including 19,190 units of Brezza, 12,387 units of Front and 592 units of Jimny. In July 2024, 14,676 units of Brezza, 10,925 units of Front and 2,429 units of Jimny were sold, for a total of 28,030 units. During the entire quarter, 49,188 Brezza units, 37,186 Front units and 3,620 Jimny units were sold, taking total sales to 89,994 units.
Abandoned Tata cars
As for Tata Motors’ sub-4 meter SUV segment, 13,711 units of the Punch and 11,470 units of the Nexon were sold in September 2024, taking the total to 25,181 units sold. A total of 27,932 units were sold in August 2024, including 16,121 units of Punch and 12,289 units of Nexon. In July 2024, 16,121 units of Punch and 13,902 units of Nexon were sold, bringing total sales to 30,023 units. In the quarter, Tata’s Punch sold 45,475 units and Nexon sold 37,661 units, totaling 83,136 units.
From these numbers, it is clear that Maruti is ahead of Tata Motors in this segment due to increasing demand for Brezza and Frontex.
