California. Even an annual salary of Rs 3 crore in the US did not stop some employees of Facebook owner Meta from misusing the company’s food credits for personal purchases. According to a Financial Times report, these employees used their $25 grocery credit to purchase non-food items such as toothpaste, acne pads and wine glasses. Like other major tech companies, Meta offers a wide selection of grocery vouchers to its office-based employees. Employees who work in large offices, such as Meta’s headquarters in Silicon Valley, receive free meals there.
Those who work in small offices, on the other hand, get credit for Uber Eats or Grubhub. The purpose is to deliver food in the office. Smaller Metra offices typically offer a daily allowance of $20 for breakfast, $25 for lunch and $25 for dinner. When it was discovered that many employees had used these meal credits to purchase household items. So the company laid off two dozen employees.
I have received warnings from those who occasionally make mistakes
It was reported that the technology company Meta only took action against those employees who repeatedly abused the food credit system. Some people had their food delivered to their home even though the credit was for office use only. While some others pooled their credits. According to one source, employees who occasionally misused loans were not fired but warned.

Many admitted their mistake
However, a former Metra employee admitted to using his $25 grocery credit on personal items like toothpaste. He said that he earned $400,000 (approximately Rs. 3.3 billion) annually while working at Meta. He said that on days when he didn’t eat at the office, such as when his spouse was cooking or when he was eating out with friends, he felt it was better to use the credit than to waste it. When HR questioned him, he admitted his mistake but was fired anyway.
