New Delhi. R Ashwin has made former Australian captain Steve Smith his victim many times. Smith is planning a strategy against Ashwin in the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy. The Australian legend says he wants to be proactive against Ashwin. Ashwin had dismissed Smith thrice in the last series. This Indian off-spinner had dismissed this former Australian captain twice in 2023. During this period, Smith could only score 22 runs against Ashwin. The first Test match of the five-match series between India and Australia will be played in Perth from November 22.
Steve Smith told the Sydney Morning Herald: “I don’t like facing off-spin in Australia.” However, he is a very good bowler and his plans are brilliant. There were a few occasions when he managed to dominate me. At the SCG (Sydney Cricket Ground) I managed to dominate him by being proactive. In such a situation, it is important for me to actively bat against him and not let him find the rhythm and bowl the way he wants.

This player from Tamil Nadu had recently said that he had made some plans against Smith. Ashwin told Channel Seven: “Steve Smith is particularly attractive as a player against spin.” He has a unique technique, including when bowling fast. But as far as spin goes, I think he had a good strategy and good preparation and yes, he applied it in every situation. And over the years I have discovered ways to understand it.
Smith 315 runs away from 10,000 test runs
Australia’s New South Wales player Smith said: “While playing against Ashwin, you have to deal with the mental challenge. “If someone can dominate at the start of the series, then they can dominate. The 35-year-old Smith is still 315 runs short of 10,000 Test runs. He will return to his preferred fourth position to bat in the series against India. Smith had opened the innings in the last four Tests but was unsuccessful.
