New Delhi. Maruti Suzuki vehicles are known for their low price and excellent mileage. For this reason, these cars are also very popular with taxi companies. The Maruti Dezire in particular was widely purchased as a taxi in the compact sedan segment. However, the result was that customers who wanted to use it for personal use stayed away from it. Keeping this in mind, Maruti Suzuki has taken an important decision. The company has announced that the upcoming 5-star new Dezire will not be sold as a taxi.
Dzire’s Tour S variant is very popular with taxi companies. This variant is specifically designed for commercial use, with an emphasis on features that enable it to be used as a taxi.
Will the Tour S variant be updated?
With the introduction of the new Dezire, the question arises as to whether the Dezire Tour S will also receive an update or not. Currently this does not appear to be the case. It may take some time for the Desire Tour S to be updated to the fourth generation model. Until then, this variant will remain available on the market together with the current third-generation model.
The Tour S variant contributes significantly to Dezire’s overall sales. According to the data, more than 1.65 lakh units of the Dezire were sold in the financial year 2023-24, of which around 40% were of the Tour S variant.
Better security features in the new Dezire
The new Maruti Dezire has already been tested in the Global NCAP crash test where the car performed excellently. It has received a 5-star rating for adult protection and a 4-star rating for child protection.
– Adult protection rating: 31.24 out of 34 points
– Child protection rating: 39.20 out of 42 points
This is the first car from Maruti to achieve a 5-star safety rating.
Big change in design
The design of the new Dezire is completely different from the old model. It features a large front grille, rectangular LED headlights and redesigned fog lights. Y-shaped LED taillights and a chrome strip at the rear ensure an even better look. The top variant has 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and LED lights with daytime running lights. Its wheelbase is 2,450 mm and ground clearance is 163 mm, making it suitable for Indian roads.
Engine and drivetrain
The new Dezire features a 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Z-series petrol engine. This engine produces 82 HP of power and 112 Nm of torque. A 5-speed manual transmission and an AMT transmission are available for the vehicle.
This step by Maruti has been taken keeping in mind the customers who want to buy it for personal use. The new Dezire is now an even better family sedan option.
