New Delhi. Maruti Suzuki has maintained its dominance in the Indian automobile market for decades. However, the month of October 2024 did not quite meet the expectations of the country’s largest automobile manufacturer. This month, the company sold 1,59,591 vehicles in the domestic market, down 5% from 1,68,407 units in October 2023 last year. Still, the company achieved 10% revenue growth in October compared to September 2024, which was possible due to the holidays.
Some of Maruti’s cars performed well while the company suffered losses due to low sales of some cars. Let us know how sales of Maruti cars were in October 2024.
The Ertiga became the best-selling car
Ertiga’s sales performance in October 2024 was excellent. This car became India’s best-selling car with 18,785 units sold. Compared to last year, sales of this model increased by 32%.
Maruti Swift came second with 17,539 units sold. However, in the same month last year, that number was 20,598 units, meaning Swift suffered a 15% decline.
Brezza, Frankos and Baleno took third, fourth and fifth place respectively. Their sales also exceeded 16,000 units. At the same time, the Grand Vitara recorded an impressive annual growth of 30% with sales of 14,083 units. Dezire, Wagon R and Eeco also sold more than 10,000 units.
The performance of the small cars remained poor
Speaking of small cars, the Maruti Alto, once considered the flagship of entry-level sedans, sold just 8,548 units in October 2024. This value is 24% below the previous year’s value. Models like Jimny and XL6 also suffered a setback. Jimny sales fell 35% and XL6 sales fell 25%. These sold 1,211 and 3,285 units respectively.
Some models took charge
While sales of some cars fell, the Ignis achieved growth of 12%. 2,663 units of this model were sold, which is more than in the previous year. Due to the decline in sales of Celerio and S-Presso, total sales fell to around 5,000 units. The Ciaz sedan, which has been in need of an upgrade for a long time, sold only 659 units. In the MPV segment, Invicto sales fell by 38% and only 296 units of this model were sold.
Sales fell despite the holidays
Even in a big festive season like Diwali, Maruti Suzuki failed to perform as expected. However, strong sales of models like Ertiga, Brezza, Franxx and Grand Vitara kept things going. Maruti Suzuki needs to make new changes in its small car and sedan segments to better serve market demand in the coming months.
