Tata’s new SUV can increase Nexon’s excitement and get strong response from customers. Tata Curvv sales in September 2024 increase risk for Tata Nexon going forward

New Delhi. Tata Motors’ new SUV, Tata Curvv, is receiving tremendous response in the Indian market. It sold 8,319 units in the last two months, which is good news for the company. However, with these rising sales have also grown some of the company’s concerns. We believe the sale of Curvv could have a negative impact on Tata Nexon’s sales as customers now have another option.

Tata Nexon has been India’s best-selling SUV for the last three years. Nexon had achieved the top position in sales in the financial years 2021-2022, 2022-2023 and 2023-2024. But this year there was a decline in Nexon sales. Nexon’s sales, which used to sell an average of more than 15,000 units per month, have now fallen to 11,000 to 12,000 units. Sales of the Nexon are expected to decline further after the launch of the Tata Curve as the features and pricing of both SUVs are broadly similar.

Features and design of Tata Curve
Tata Curve was launched in four trim levels – Smart, Pure, Creative and Achieved. This SUV is based on Tata’s new Atlas platform and has been designed differently than the Tata Curve EV. The front grill and the air spoiler were designed differently for better air circulation. Additionally, 18-inch alloy wheels are included, giving it an attractive look.

The Curve has modern features such as a 12.3-inch infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a wireless phone charger and a 9-speaker JBL sound system. In addition, features such as the four-spoke steering wheel and the backlit Tata logo make it even more premium.

Price and variants
Tata Curve has been launched at a starting ex-showroom price of Rs 9.99 lakh, while the price of its top model goes up to Rs 19 lakh. However, these introductory prices only apply to customers who book by October 31, 2024.

Engine and transmission options
Tata Curve was launched with three engine options. The best known among them is the 1.2 liter GDi turbo petrol engine called Hyperion. This engine produces 124 hp of power and 225 Nm of torque, mated to a 6-speed manual or 7-speed DCA automatic transmission.

In addition, another variant of the 1.2-liter turbo petrol engine is also available in the Curve, which produces 119 hp of power and 170 Nm of torque. This is the same engine that is found in the Tata Nexon. A 1.5-liter Chirotec diesel engine is also available as an option for the Curve, offering an output of 117 hp and a torque of 260 Nm.

Properties of the curve in the segment
Tata Curve is the first SUV in its segment to offer an optional dual-clutch automatic transmission with a diesel engine. This feature makes it even more attractive.
